GO is #ProKidCA

GO Public Schools joined over 480 organizations by signing onto a letter that advocated for an $800 million increase in funding for early childhood care and education programs in California in the 2016-17 state budget. These investments will increase access to quality child care for working families and improve the quality of care and learning for young children.

UPDATE: On June 12, the state Legislature’s Conference Committee wrapped up its deliberations on the 2016-2017 state budget, with a final package close to the request outlined in our coalition letter.

Early care and education emerged as a top priority. Ultimately, the Governor and Senate and Assembly leadership rallied around a significant investment in child care this year, agreeing on a multi-year commitment of an additional $500 million for state child care and preschool programs. The Legislature is expected to pass the Committee’s package quickly and send it on to Governor Brown, who will need to approve it by the end of June.
