Mark Heringer, Managing Director East Bay
Why I GO
I believe that when we work in collaboration and community we can address the needs of all our students and families based on their experiences, their goals, and their desired educational outcomes. We must see ourselves in each other so that we are unified by our similarities and common interests.

Mark Heringer

Managing Director, East Bay

Mark Heringer was born in Dayton, Ohio and raised in Salem, Oregon. He has lived and worked primarily on the West Coast and moved to the Bay Area in 2000. Since then Mark has been a passionate educator and educational leader with a focus on addressing the need for educational reform in support of students and families of color. Mark has worked as a teacher, lead/mentor teacher, teacher leader, department chair, instructional leadership team (ILT) member, and as an school site administrator.

Most recently Mark was the Principal of Thurgood Marshall Academic High School in San Francisco. Under his leadership, Thurgood Marshall made significant gains on literacy benchmarks for English Language Learners, ELL being over 65% of the school’s student population. Mark is guided by his belief that leadership is best exemplified through service. As Mark sees it, leaders are those individuals who do the work to support the needs, desired outcomes, and vision of a community and its members. Mark truly believes that leadership is a call to service and action not a desire to have, gain or hold power. Mark hopes to continue his work in advocating for educational reform in support of underserved and underrepresented groups, and is excited to be working as Go Public School’s Managing Director, East Bay in West Contra Costa and Oakland.

Mark currently lives in San Francisco with his wife and two sons.
