Why I GO
As an adult who grew up poor but got lucky to go to some great public schools early on, I want others to have the same opportunity I had. As a former teacher, I want teachers to have sustainable jobs that they can stay in for many years. As a parent, I want all of our children to have access to education that helps them become thoughtful, kind, and productive community members.

Jessica has been a proud Oakland resident for more than a decade and is the lucky mom of two future Oakland students. In her fourth year as an OUSD teacher in the 08-09 school year, Jessica was one of the community members involved in the founding of GO Public Schools. She is a graduate of Auburn University, where she was the President of the Alabama College Democrats State Federation and the Auburn College Democrats, as well as the first college graduate from her family. She was a middle school math and science teacher at Elmhurst Middle School in East Oakland, and a founding teacher at Elmhurst Community Prep Middle School. In her second year, she was named the Alameda/Contra Costa County Math Teacher of the Year. She joined the GO team in June 2011. She lives in the Fruitvale neighborhood of Oakland with her husband Jonathon and two children. She is an alumna of the New Leaders Council Fellowship and Leadership Oakland.

The members of our Leadership Council are Oakland natives, residents, parents, grandparents, former teachers, principals, and alumni of Oakland public schools. Our leaders have deep connections to Oakland and strong backgrounds in education. The Leadership Council supports and guides our work in the best interest of Oakland students.
