Why public education?
I did leadership development with the Scouts and one time I had to teach people something. I had a plan, but as I was teaching, the scout leader kept asking questions about getting people involved. It made me ask questions about how do you get people to do things, and how do people learn? Education has that power to turn lights on and for you to do things in life. It allows you to find your passion.
Favorite quote and why?
“Leave this world a little better than you found it.” – Robert Baden-Powell
To me this is the guiding principle of how you live your life. You have a certain amount of time, and did you do something for others?
I am passionate about Oakland because we have a phenomenal culture and people. All my life, I heard about Oakland’s great potential. It has been my desire to get past potential and get to great success. With all the people, diversity, and cultural landscape that we have, it could be such a phenomenal place. If we could only get education, crime, and jobs in order.
