Why I GO
I GO because I believe that every parent wants the same thing -- a high-quality school that meets their child's unique and individual needs. Too often we fall short of providing schools like these for all kids and I find this unacceptable for my own kids and for kids of anyone in my city.

Leadership Council

For more than a decade, Diego has been a passionate advocate for creating equitable schools that prepare every child to lead a fulfilling life.  A native of Fresno, CA, he recently returned home with his wife and two daughters to help strengthen the public schools in the district where his two young daughters will attend school. Prior to GO, Diego was the Chief Growth Officer for Summit Public Schools, a leading network of public charter schools currently serving more than 3,000 students in California’s Bay Area and Washington State.  As Chief Growth Officer and a member of Summit’s Executive Team, Diego helped Summit expand its network and grow its impact through innovative partnerships across the country. Prior to serving as Chief Growth Officer, Diego was the founding principal of Summit Public School: Rainier, the third school in the Summit Public Schools network, and was the founding US History and government teacher at Summit Prep.  He began his career in politics, serving as the Communications Director for U.S. Representative Cal Dooley after serving as Dooley’s Deputy Campaign Manager for a hard-fought campaign in California’s Central Valley in 2000.  Diego received his A.B. in government from Harvard University and a Master’s in Education from Stanford University. Diego, a Pahara-Aspen Education Fellow and member of the James Irvine New Leadership Network, is also on the board of Summit Public Schools and of the Downtown Fresno Foundation.

The members of our Leadership Council are Oakland natives, residents, parents, grandparents, former teachers, principals, and alumni of Oakland public schools.
