Why I GO
"The work we do at GO is important because it empowers the Oakland community to have a voice in the education that their children are receiving in public schools."

Why public education?

I am passionate about public education because I believe that everyone, no matter their background, should receive a¬†quality education. Education shouldn’t be just limited to being tested. Rather, it should also focus on making sure students are mentally, physically, and emotionally prepared for life outside of school.

How I GO?

Aside from my internship at GO, I also work at a tutoring center in Oakland. I’ve been working there for the past 4 summers and I truly enjoy working with the children there. I’ve always told myself that working with children isn’t my cup of tea, but I always find myself coming back for the kids every year.

Favorite inspirational quote and why?

My favorite inspirational quote is “it always seems impossible until it’s done” by Nelson Mandela. I stand by this quote because sometimes the end goal seems nearly impossible, but determination and perseverance will pull one through.

What are your vices?

I enjoy eating ice cream because you can never go wrong with it! It always brightens my mood whenever I am sad or upset.
