A Parent's Guide to Special Education

2025-2026 parent’s guides now available with additional online resources selected by GO’s Special Education Community-Led Committee (CLC).

Special Education

It takes a village to support a child. At GO, we believe that when teachers, parents, and community advocates come together to share their experiences and expertise’s, we realize that there is no “one size fits all” approach to special education. Most of all, no one is alone in the journey of navigating the special education process.

GO is proud to present comprehensive bilingual Parent’s Guides to Special Education tailored to families in Fresno, Oakland, and West Contra Costa. Each regional guide provides families with critical insights into the IEP process, 504 Plans, Autism, transition planning and more—and are now available for download (including additional online resources for your family). While each guide includes region-specific contact information, the over 100-page comprehensive tool is designed to benefit any parent in California who needs guidance on navigating the special education system.

GO Public Schools is committed to creating spaces for families to continue learning and advocating together. We invite you to join our Special Education Community-Led Committee (CLC), a statewide group of parents and caregivers working to identify challenges in the system and advocate for meaningful change. This is a great opportunity to connect with other families and collaborate to make a lasting impact.
