The two talked about the progress that Oakland’s schools have made over the past five years, the work the city as a whole has done to prepare more of our students for college and career — specifically our most underserved youth — and the role GO has played in including more voices in the conversation about our schools.
“We have reasons to be hopeful—and we have a long way to go.
If you’re an African-American or Latino child in Oakland, your chances of ending up a high-school graduate are substantially better than they would have been five years ago. That’s a really big deal, and it’s taken a lot of hard work—by teachers and principals, by kids and families—to make that happen.”
